Marriage is solemnized according to Vedic rites in Arya Samaj ceremonies. In Arya Samaj marriages, no particular deity is worshipped due to the absence of idol worship beliefs. Fire and other natural elements serve as the sole witnesses to the marriage ceremony. Subsequent to the solemnization, the Arya Samaj Temple furnishes the marriage certificate to the newlywed couple.

As per the preference and choice of the individuals involved, Arya Samaj marriages can be registered with the Marriage Registrar. Following registration, the marriage registrar provides the official marriage certificate to the couple.

Any person who is Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, or Sikh is eligible to officiate an Arya Samaj marriage.

Any individual who does not identify as Muslim, Christian, Parsi, or Jewish is also eligible to officiate an Arya Samaj marriage.

Inter-caste marriages and inter-religious marriages can also be officiated in an Arya Samaj ceremony, provided neither of the marrying individuals identifies as Muslim, Christian, Parsi, or Jewish.

In cases where one or more marrying individuals identify as Muslim, Christian, Parsi, or Jewish and willingly choose to convert to Hinduism, the Arya Samaj Mandir conducts a ritual known as “shuddhi,” or purification, for such conversion. Following this, the converted individual(s) can proceed with an Arya Samaj marriage.

Both individuals, male and female, must submit a notice to the marriage officer of their respective district, like Mumbai or Thane, with at least one having lived in the district for 30 days prior.

The marriage officer is obliged to display a copy of the notice at the district marriage officer’s premises.

Following a 30-day notice period, citizens have the opportunity to raise objections to the proposed marriage.

If objections are raised and valid, either party can appeal to the District Court, whose decision is final.

In the absence of objections, the parties, along with three witnesses, affirm their unmarried status before the marriage officer officially registers their marriage.

1. Complete the form provided at the Office of the Marriage Registrar.
2. Enclose self-attested copies of age and address proof.
3. Submit a notice to the marriage officer within 30 days of the intended marriage.
4. The marriage officer will affix a copy of the notice to the premises of the district marriage office.
5. Following the notice period, a 30-day window is provided for any citizen to raise objections to the proposed marriage.
6. If no objections are raised, the parties, accompanied by three witnesses, must sign a declaration in the presence of the marriage officer, affirming their unmarried status, and proceed to register their marriage.
7. Obtain the marriage certificate.

It holds significance as it serves as official documentation of marriage in government records. In the event of any property disputes in the future, the marriage certificate stands as conclusive evidence of marriage.
